OCIA - CHRISTIAN INITIATION
A Journey of Faith.
A Home in the Church.
Whether you are discovering the Catholic faith for the first time, seeking Baptism, or hoping to complete your Sacraments of Initiation, OCIA is a journey of prayer, learning, conversion, and community.
FIND YOUR PATH
Is OCIA for me?
People come to OCIA from many different backgrounds. You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin. Find the description below that best matches where you are on your journey.
NOT YET BAPTIZED
For adults who have never been baptized and are interested in becoming Catholic. OCIA provides preparation for Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion.
BAPTIZED CATHOLIC
For adults who were baptized Catholic but have not received First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation.
BAPTIZED IN ANOTHER CHRISTIAN TRADITION
For baptized Christians who are interested in entering into full communion with the Catholic Church and receiving the Sacraments of Initiation they may still need.
JUST EXPLORING?
You are welcome. OCIA is also for adults who have questions about Catholicism and want to learn more before deciding whether to become Catholic.
THE OCIA JOURNEY
What can I expect?
OCIA is not simply a class or a checklist of requirements. It is a journey of faith that allows each person time to ask questions, grow in relationship with Jesus Christ, learn about the Catholic faith, and discern where God may be leading them.
INQUIRY & WELCOME
Your journey begins with conversation. This is a time to ask questions, learn about the Catholic faith, and explore whether God may be calling you to take the next step. There is no pressure to have everything figured out.
FORMATION & DISCERNMENT
Through prayer, Scripture, teaching, discussion, and participation in parish life, you will grow in your understanding of the Catholic faith while discerning your relationship with Christ and His Church.
PREPARATION FOR THE SACRAMENTS
As you continue your journey, the Church accompanies you in preparing for the Sacraments of Initiation appropriate to you: Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion.
A LIFE OF FAITH
Receiving the Sacraments is not the end of the journey. OCIA prepares you for a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ and active participation in the life and mission of His Church.
